FairStack: a multi-modal AI studio with infrastructure pricing.
Indie creators and AI developers were patching together five generation tools, five subscriptions, and five quality bars. Downshift built one studio. 386 models, 6 modalities, three providers, one credit pool, no subscription.

The problem
The AI generation stack is a 2026 mess. Image goes through Midjourney or fal.ai. Video goes through Veo or Sora. Voice goes through ElevenLabs. Music goes through Suno. Each provider has its own SDK, its own quality bar, its own opaque per-generation cost, and its own monthly subscription.
For an indie creator or a small studio, that means five accounts, five API keys, five billing relationships, and zero ability to price a finished piece of content before they make it. For an AI developer building a product, it means juggling five SDKs and five rate limits per feature.
The ICP is clear: creators and developers who don't want subscription lock-in, want infrastructure pricing instead, and want one API for every modality.
What Downshift built
One studio that covers every modality from a single credit pool. Eight named surfaces, each tied to a real creator job.
AI Director
Tell it what you need; it writes, shoots, scores, and delivers. The Director picks the right model per modality, runs the pipeline, and assembles the final asset.
Image generation + editing
Chat-first editor. Click an object, swap it. Generate from prompt. Powered by Gemini-class models including Nano Banana 2.
Character Sheets
Consistent characters across every scene. Lock the look once, regenerate as many times as the script calls for.
Background Swap
Change any background. Keep the subject. Keep the lighting. Keep the brand.
Voice Over
Human-sounding voiceovers across 168 voices in multiple languages. Pay per-second of audio, no monthly minimum.
Music Generation
Original tracks for any mood, any length. Cleared for the use you generate them for.
Video upscale
Convert footage to 4K quality. One generation, one transparent price.
URL-to-Video
Drop a product page URL. Get a short-form video back. The pipeline reads the page, plans the shots, and renders.
Developer API
One REST API spanning all modalities with spending caps, webhooks, and reliability. Built for AI agents and product teams.

The architecture
One model registry, three upstream providers, every job priced and quoted before it runs. Built so an indie creator and an AI agent get the same API.
Model registry
- 386 models in the production config
- 271 user-facing across 6 modalities
- Image, video, voice, music, talking-head, 3D
- Smart router: prompt to model based on classification
- Per-model intelligence scores and capability bars
Upstream providers
- fal.ai (image + video infra)
- RunPod (open-source model hosting)
- Kie.ai (model marketplace)
- Plus ElevenLabs, OpenAI, Google Gemini for specific surfaces
- Headline models: Veo, Sora, Kling 3.0, Seedance 2.0, Nano Banana 2
Pricing surface
- Pay-per-generation, no subscription
- Prepaid credit balance (PAYG)
- Quote-before-run on every modality
- 20% flat platform fee on infrastructure cost
- Range from $0.025 to $0.85+ per generation depending on model
Production services live
- fairstack.ai (web app)
- api.fairstack.ai (developer API)
- media.fairstack.ai (asset CDN)
- staging.fairstack.ai (staging environment)
Real outcomes
Numbers below come from FairStack's live marketing on fairstack.ai and from the production codebase model registry. No fabricated metrics.
Models in the production config registry.
User-facing models across all modalities.
Modalities: image, video, voice, music, talking-head, 3D.
Voices available for voiceover generation.
Upstream providers behind the unified API: fal.ai, RunPod, Kie.ai.
Lowest per-generation price on the platform.
Flat platform fee on top of infrastructure cost. No subscription.
Prompt-classification features driving the smart router.
Sources: pricing examples ($0.025-$0.85+, 20% platform fee) and 168-voice count are quoted from fairstack.ai; model count and modality split (386 / 271 / 6) come from the production codebase model registry. Per-creator generation volume and revenue are not published on a public marketing page and are shared on request.

What's in flight
FairStack is in growth + stability mode. The model registry continues to absorb new providers and models as they ship. The Director pipeline expands with new templates and creative-engine recipes. Local on-device generation is wired into the dev surface so engineers can iterate at $0 against the same pipeline that production runs on real infrastructure.
