Downshift vs ShipFast
ShipFast is a Next.js boilerplate. Downshift is a team. Both ship startups; only one of them does it for non-technical founders.
ShipFast is built by Marc Lou, sells for $199 to $299 on shipfa.st, and has 8,000+ paying makers. It is genuinely good at what it does. The question this page answers: is what it does what you actually need?

When ShipFast is the right choice
ShipFast is a respected indie tool for a real reason. If your situation matches any of these, $199 is well spent:
- You can code in Next.js and TypeScript. The bottleneck is boilerplate, not engineering judgment.
- You're a solo indie hacker shipping a side project, not a venture-track startup with paying customers waiting.
- You want the Marc Lou Discord and the leaderboard culture as part of the deal.
- Your budget is in the hundreds, not the tens of thousands.
ShipFast is good at what it is. Different category, not a worse one.
When Downshift is the right choice
Downshift is a different shape on purpose. Pick Downshift if any of these match:
- You don't code, and outsourcing the code to a freelancer who disappears is the pattern you keep hitting.
- You need senior engineering judgment, not a starter you have to assemble.
- Your venture has a real ICP and you need it shipped to production in 3 to 6 weeks.
- You have $30K, OR you have traction strong enough to qualify for the free Public Build path.
There's a free path. It's selective.
Downshift runs a Public Build campaign for a few founders each cycle. Free of cash cost. Public by default. Founders apply with traction-shaped applications, not idea-shaped pitches. If $199 buys a starter and what you needed was a shipped product, this is the path.
